Lead organization: Cowichan Stewardship Roundtable and Cowichan Tribes.
Quw'utsun Sta'lo' Skweyul (Cowichan River Day) is co-hosted by Cowichan Stewardship Roundtable and Cowichan Tribes. The Cowichan Stewardship Roundtable is a grassroots group running for over 20 years. The Cowichan Community Land Trust has the Roundtable under its umbrella to look after the donations and finances of the event.
River Day was started in BC 45 years ago and is celebrated around the world. Our event involves a strong component of reconciliation, engaging Cowichan Tribes protocol and knowledge keepers and elders comprising a large part of the day. The day is focused on celebrating and providing education about the Cowichan Watershed. We have Tzinquaw Dancers open and close the day. Many info booths are available. Nature walk, medicine walk, raptor bird display, carving, cedar hat making and much more are some of the activities.
The event is held on Cowichan Tribes Indian Reserve, Black Bridge Beach, behind the Siem Lelum gym, 5574 River Rd, Duncan, follow the signs.
