ORCBC 2023 AGM - request for nominations and resolutions

The Outdoor Recreation Council's (ORCBC) 2023 Annual General Meeting will be held virtually on Saturday, Jun 24, 2023, at 9 am PT.

Nominations for ORCBC’s Executive Board of Directors

Six positions on ORCBC ’s Board of Directors will be up for election/re-election at the AGM.

All members of ORCBC are encouraged to submit nominations.

Nominations submitted by the organization, along with a brief bio/resume of recreation-related activities and experience, along with a note of acceptance from the nominee, will be accepted if received by ORCBC by May 19, 2023.

Under ORCBC’s bylaws, nominations cannot be taken from the floor at the AGM.

A list of nominees will be circulated with the notice of the AGM a month before the meeting. If there are more nominations than positions, elections will be held at the AGM.

To be eligible for election as a director of ORCBC, a nominee must be qualified in accordance with ORCBC’s current bylaws and:

  • Be a member of a provincial organization member

  • Be a member of a regional organization member

  • Be an individual member

  • Be an advisory member who has been nominated by the Board.

The following provides some guidelines for the preferred background of candidates and availability considerations.

  • Currently active with an outdoor recreation organization

  • Has experience with more than one type of outdoor recreation

  • Has a strong interest in outdoor recreation and public policy issues such as access to Crown lands, trails, and the well-being of the outdoor recreation community

  • Previous experience in the administration of non-government organizations (NGOs) is desirable

  • Has a willingness to bring forward issues of general concern to the outdoor recreation sector to meetings of the Board

  • Has an ability to bring the perspective of the organization which nominated the candidate to the Board meetings while bearing in mind that he or she is to work for the overall benefit of the entire outdoor recreation sector

  • Has an ability to take a balanced view of issues affecting the outdoor recreation sector

  • Willing to usually be available in person or by phone for the monthly meetings which are generally at 5:00 PM on the third Monday of the month

Members’ resolutions

ORCBC's members are invited to submit resolutions by May 5, 2023, about issues affecting the outdoor recreation sector, which will be considered at the Annual General Meeting. Approved resolutions are advisory-only: The Board decides what action it will take on resolutions approved at a general meeting. If you have questions or if you require assistance with the drafting of an appropriate resolution, please contact the ORCBC office.
