We are looking for a new team member to support with social media and communications, fundraising and annual initiatives such as BC Trails Day.

POSITION: Communication and Engagement Officer

LOCATION: Home-based in British Columbia. The applicant is responsible for having their own computer, software, printer, reliable WIFI and office available.  

ORGANIZATIONAL DETAILS: The Outdoor Recreation Council of BC (ORCBC) is an umbrella organization composed of organizational members that represent the broad and diverse spectrum of outdoor recreation user groups in BC, including paddlers, hikers, mountain bikers, equestrians, quad riders, 4WDs, sport fishers and other nature interests. We work to promote and advocate for access to and responsible use of BC's outdoors for public recreation, build bridges between outdoor recreation groups and represent the broad interests of the outdoor recreation community to government and industry.

This is an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and creative communications or marketing professional who loves the outdoors to help the ORCBC develop its communications, outreach and fundraising programs. 

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: The successful candidate will carry out the following duties and responsibilities: 

Communications and project management

  • Develop, implement, and evaluate a strategic communication plan considering different key audiences.

  • Produce high-quality, impactful content and campaigns for all ORCBC platforms, including the website, social media, blogs, electronic newsletters and annual report.

  • Support the planning, scheduling and delivery of webinars and engagement campaigns.

  • Create and maintain a library of communications assets such as photographs and videos.

  • Support the development of plans, content and assets to support ORCBC’s annual BC Trails Day and BC Rivers Day initiatives.

Fundraising and member support

  • Help develop sponsorship materials, undertake prospect research, and update fundraising database.

  • Develop and steward our annual giving program (create campaigns, communicate with and thank donors, update database).

  • Research grants and other fundraising opportunities.

  • Coordinate annual membership invoices to members and update contact systems.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:

  • Post-secondary degree, preferably in a related field of study such as communications, marketing, business, or other relevant programs, or possess relevant work or volunteer experience. 

  • A minimum of two years of experience. 

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, fluent in spoken and written English 

  • Familiarity with relevant software and web applications required (including Canva, Mailchimp, Google Workspace and Squarespace). 

  • Experience with content creation, design, and video editing is a strong asset

  • Excellent time management skills and the ability to juggle multiple tasks and demands.

  • Self-starting, proactive and capable of working both independently and in a remote team setting.

  • Passion for and knowledge of the BC outdoor recreation sector is an asset.

COMPENSATION & HOURS: This is a full-time, permanent position (35 hours/weekly) position with an hourly pay of $25 and an opportunity to access an extended health plan.
