How Can I Make a Planned Gift to Support Outdoor Recreation in BC?

Have you considered how your love for outdoor recreation can have a lasting impact? A planned gift is a powerful way to support the future of BC’s trails, wild spaces, and recreation communities, long after your lifetime.

Planned gifts, also known as legacy gifts, play a vital role in sustaining ORCBC’s work across British Columbia. These thoughtful contributions help us champion accessible, sustainable outdoor recreation, support grassroots community groups, and invest in the research needed to inform sound policy and planning. By including ORCBC in your long-term giving plans, you’re helping to protect trail networks, strengthen stewardship initiatives, empower volunteers, and ensure recreational access for generations to come.

You also have the option to direct your gift to the Outdoor Recreation Fund of BC, which supports community-led recreation and stewardship projects across the province. This is a powerful way to ensure your legacy supports hands-on initiatives in the places you love.

Two of the most common ways to make a planned gift:

Bequests

This involves naming Outdoor Recreation Council of British Columbia in your will or trust. You can:

  • Leave a specific dollar amount or asset

  • Designate a percentage of your estate

  • Leave the remainder of your estate after caring for loved ones

  • Set a contingent bequest that activates only under specific conditions

Beneficiary Designations

You can name ORCBC or the Outdoor Recreation Fund of BC as a beneficiary of your:

  • Life insurance policy

  • RRSP or RRIF

  • Investment portfolio or bank account

These are simple, meaningful ways to leave a lasting legacy, and may also offer tax benefits to your estate and family.

Where to Direct Your Support

When making your plans, you can choose to direct your support to:

  • ORCBC’s general work, which supports province-wide advocacy, education, and collaboration efforts; or

  • The Outdoor Recreation Fund of BC, which funds local projects like trail restoration, signage, environmental stewardship, and more.

Getting Started with Legacy Giving

As you begin thinking about your legacy, we suggest:

  • Having a conversation with your family and loved ones about your values and intentions

  • Speaking with a legal or financial advisor who can help you explore the best options for your circumstances

We’re here to support you every step of the way. If you’d like more information, sample will language, or to discuss your giving intentions, please don’t hesitate to reach out. Your gift will help protect and enhance BC’s outdoor recreation legacy for generations to come.
