August Webinar: Trail planning: best practices, challenges, and opportunities

Join ORCBC’s August webinar for an overview of the trail planning landscape in B.C.

Our guest speaker will be Erik Morden, a professional community planner and outdoor recreation researcher who will share insights from his master’s thesis, including areas of best practice, challenge, and opportunity in trail planning.

In the live webinar, Erik will discuss how trails and the processes of planning them can deliver meaningful outcomes for communities beyond the existence of a recreational amenity. He will share key findings and recommendations and answer questions from the audience in a dedicated Q&A session.

Interested in attending, but can’t watch it live? No problem. We record every webinar and share the recording and key takeaways, insights and resources with everyone who registers.

A bit more about the presenter:

Erik completed his thesis to earn a Master's of Community Planning from Vancouver Island University and is now part of the planning team for the Village of Pemberton. With a background in academic research, grassroots outdoor initiatives, parks and trails management, and community planning, he brings a practical and interdisciplinary approach to recreation and land stewardship.

His thesis explored how trail work and outdoor recreation in British Columbia engages with bigger societal questions of community resilience, land-use, reconciliation, environmental responsibility, well-being, and equity.

Attendees can expect to learn how community-based collaborative trail planning can help strengthen program outcomes, nurture healthier communities, and support recreational development. His thesis delves into high-level insights and specific recommendations, making it a perfect resource for anyone interested in using, planning, or supporting trails.

For anyone that’s interested in the power of trails and outdoor recreation this webinar promises many interesting and transformative takeaways.
