September webinar: Everyone is a river steward

Whether you ride dirt bikes, climb mountains, paddle lakes, hunt for rocks, or scan the skies for birds, if you spend time outdoors, you’re already part of a river’s story. That’s because no matter where you stand, there’s always a river downstream. And the ways we recreate on the land can shape the health of those waters, for better or for worse.

The good news? Small actions make a big difference. Healthy rivers safeguard drinking water, reduce wildfire risk, build climate resilience, and support biodiversity, fish, and wildlife.

As we get ready to celebrate BC Rivers Day later this month, join us on Tuesday, September 23 at 12:00 PM PT for an interactive webinar. River stewardship experts will share inspiring stories of how recreationists and communities across BC are stepping up to care for waterways and how you can too.

Speakers include:

  • Neil Fletcher, Director of Conservation Stewardship, BCWF

  • Katharine VanSpall, Head of Habitat Asset Management, Ducks Unlimited Canada

  • Justine Nelson, Executive Director, Rivershed Society of BC

You’ll discover how:

  • ATVers are using beaver-inspired solutions to build analog dams.

  • Volunteers are restoring creeks, building bridges, and protecting wetlands.

  • Every recreation group, with the right partners, can help safeguard watersheds.

This free session includes a live Q&A. If you can’t attend live, register anyway to receive the recording, slides, and a resource package with practical tools for taking action.

Register today and join the momentum leading into BC Rivers Day, the world’s largest celebration of rivers. Together, we can become stronger river stewards, making our backyards more wildfire-ready, climate-smart, and biodiverse.

The Outdoor Recreation Council of BC is a non-profit organization. These webinars are free, thanks to the support of our generous donors and sponsors. If you would like to support our work, make a donation or get in touch about sponsorship opportunities.
