The Outdoor Recreation Council of BC (ORCBC) invites British Columbians of all ages and abilities to celebrate the fifth annual BC Trails Day on Saturday, June 7, 2025.

Held on the first Saturday in June, BC Trails Day is a province-wide event that highlights the vital role trails play in recreation, health, tourism, and community life. With over 40,000 kilometres of managed trails across British Columbia, the day celebrates how trails contribute to well-being, local economies, and environmental stewardship.

Launched in 2020, BC Trails Day has quickly become one of the province’s most anticipated outdoor events. In 2024, more than 60 events were hosted by local trail groups, recreation clubs, municipalities, and volunteers, from guided hikes and trail clean-ups to inclusive walks for new Canadians and family-friendly community barbecues.

“Trails connect people through shared rides or hikes, peaceful time in nature, or hands-on stewardship,” said Louise Pedersen, Executive Director of the Outdoor Recreation Council of BC. “BC Trails Day is an annual celebration of the benefits trails bring to our lives and a chance to recognize the volunteers who care for them. It’s also a call to step outside and be part of your recreation community.”

ORCBC is a non-profit organization that represents more than 120 member associations and groups from across the outdoor recreation spectrum, including snowmobilers, hikers, paddlers, anglers, off-roaders, mountain bikers, equestrians, and more. The organization works to promote responsible access to BC’s outdoors, support community stewardship, and advocate for the interests of outdoor recreation users in provincial decision-making.

ORCBC is calling on trail groups, Indigenous communities, municipalities, schools, and outdoor recreation organizations to host events in their communities. From group bike rides and trail maintenance days to educational workshops on outdoor safety or paddling events, BC Trails Day is a great opportunity to bring people together and showcase the local trails you love.

Hosting an event is simple and a powerful way to engage volunteers, build community, and highlight the importance of responsible recreation. ORCBC provides resources and promotion support to help make any event a success.
