Broom Busting James Bay Prevost Island National Park Reserve

  • James Bay BC Canada (map)

Lead organization: Sea Kayak Association of BC

Join us for a rewarding day of broom busting at James Bay on Prevost Island! With support from the Ecologist Team Leader at Gulf Islands National Park Reserve and Parks Canada, we’ll be working together to restore this beautiful area.

Scotch broom is an invasive plant that forms dense, woody thickets, often crowding out native species and blocking trails. By removing it, we help reopen pathways and make the trails safer and more enjoyable for everyone.
Our task will be to cut broom at the base using loppers or handsaws, then pile the cut plants for later burning or composting. Parks Canada has approved this conservation event and will provide a training session at the start of the day, along with the necessary tools and equipment.
Please note:

A Parks Canada waiver must be completed before participating
Photos may be taken during the event for social media
Participants must be able to arrange their own boat transportation to and from James Bay on Prevost Island

What to bring:
-Weather-appropriate clothing
-Closed-toe shoes
-Gloves
-Snacks or lunch
-Plenty of water

Come lend a hand, enjoy time outdoors, and make a positive impact on this special place!
