ORCBC Joins 1% for the Planet as Environmental Partner

1% for the Planet is a global movement that brings together businesses that are ready to reject business as usual, and environmental organizations to create positive environmental change. The idea is simple yet powerful: business members pledge to contribute 1% of their annual sales or budget to approved environmental nonprofits. This financial support goes directly to projects and initiatives that champion conservation, sustainability, and environmental stewardship worldwide

Started in 2002 by Yvon Chouinard, founder of Patagonia, and Craig Mathews, founder of Blue Ribbon Flies, their members have given hundreds of millions of dollars to environmental partners to date.

“The intent of 1% for the Planet is to help fund these diverse environmental organizations so that collectively they can be a more powerful source in solving the world’s problems,” writes Yvon Chouinard, co-founder of 1% for the Planet

By joining 1% for the Planet, ORCBC aligns itself with a diverse network of like-minded companies and organizations, each dedicated to leaving a positive impact on the planet. This move represents our commitment to taking collective action, recognizing that together, we can achieve far more than we could individually.

Businesses can demonstrate their commitment to nature access and community conservation in British Columbia by joining 1% for the Planet as a member and choosing ORCBC as an environmental partner. Once a business donates 1% of their annual sales, receipts are certified by 1% for the Planet to ensure accountability, prevent greenwashing, and to help customers find businesses that align with their values.

Together we can keep the earth in business—1% for the Planet is a great place to start.
