From celebrating volunteer stewardship projects to highlighting policy wins and trail-building collaborations, ORCBC’s social media channels play a key role in connecting communities, inspiring responsible recreation, and showcasing the strength of BC’s recreation network.

Contract: Freelance, remote in British Columbia
Compensation: $1,500/month
Time commitment: Approx. 30-35 hours/month

The Outdoor Recreation Council of BC (ORCBC) is a non-profit organization that works to advance outdoor recreation and stewardship across the province. We collaborate with recreation groups, Indigenous communities, land managers, and governments to ensure that BC’s public lands and waters remain accessible, healthy, and responsibly managed for everyone.
Role overview
We’re looking for a creative and reliable social media freelancer to manage and grow ORCBC’s online presence. The ideal candidate is a skilled storyteller with a strong understanding of outdoor recreation, social impact communications, and audience engagement.
You’ll help strengthen ORCBC’s voice across social platforms, highlight the positive impact of outdoor recreation, and amplify the work of our partners and member organizations.
Key responsibilities
Develop and schedule engaging content for Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn that aligns with ORCBC’s goals, brand guidelines, and tone.
Create 4–6 original posts per week using photos, infographics, and short videos (provided or sourced with permission).
Write compelling captions and short narratives that reflect ORCBC’s mission and current campaigns.
Engage with followers and partner organizations by monitoring comments, tags, and messages and responding appropriately.
Maintain a monthly content calendar aligned with upcoming campaigns, events (e.g., BC Rivers Day, BC Trails Day and the Outdoor Recreation Fund of BC), and advocacy priorities.
Report on monthly performance metrics (reach, engagement, and growth) and suggest improvements.
Collaborate with ORCBC staff on communications priorities, key messages, and content planning.
Deliverables ($1,500/month)
4–6 posts per week across ORCBC’s primary platforms.
Monthly content calendar (submitted one week before each month begins).
Monthly analytics report with insights and recommendations.
2-4 short-form videos (15–45 seconds) per month (reel or TikTok-style) showcasing an ORCBC initiative, partner story, or stewardship action.
Engagement monitoring and response (approx. 1–2 times/week).
Qualifications
Proven experience managing social media for a non-profit, environmental organization, or outdoor recreation brand.
Strong writing and storytelling skills with an eye for visuals.
Proficiency with Canva or similar design tools.
Knowledge of current social media trends, particularly for environmental and outdoor audiences.
Passion for outdoor recreation, stewardship, and community engagement.
