Every day, critical decisions are being made about the use of BC’s public lands and waters. It’s been our purpose, heart, and soul for 40+ years to promote and protect the active lifestyle that British Columbians enjoy. We are the only organization in the province that works on behalf of a full range of public outdoor recreation enthusiasts.

By joining ORCBC, your association or club becomes a part of a growing network of over 80 member organizations within the recreation sector. Our membership is open to non-profit societies, recreation groups, or local government organizations in British Columbia that have an interest in outdoor recreation and to individuals who support the objectives and values of ORCBC.

ADVOCACY & GOVERNMENT RELATIONS

The access enjoyed by outdoor enthusiasts in British Columbia today is the culmination of decades of advocacy, grassroots activism, and widespread volunteer efforts. ORCBC supports your advocacy efforts by providing research, strategic solutions, a wide array of supplementary resources and connection to the recreation community. We also represent your interests at meetings with BC Government ministers, senior staff and provincial committees, participate in consultations and engage grassroots supporters all across BC to build community power.

member roundtable

ORCBC member organizations are invited to join us virtually on Zoom on the first Thursday of the month for a BC-wide roundtable call to share, collaborate and educate in areas of importance to outdoor recreation in BC.

NEWS

Access to members-only notifications as well as the Outdoor Recreation Report, our monthly e-newsletter, which includes updates and information about consultations, new funding opportunities and events.

PUBLIC COMMENT PERIODS

We advise our members when the Province of BC seeks public input on issues that may impact public outdoor recreation, including amendments to Provincial Park Management Plans and provincial plans or legislation. This ensures that our member organizations have an opportunity to make comments when they foresee issues.

CROWN LAND TENURE REFERRALS

ORCBC is designated by the Province of BC and FrontCounter BC to receive referrals for new crown land tenure applications by the adventure tourism industry. We notify our members by email about the public comment periods attached to these referrals.

EDUCATIONal support

Having the knowledge to drive impactful change within your community or organization is vital for success. We offer educational resources, including webinars and events, funding opportunities, publications and best practices guides needed to enable your organization to fulfill its mission.

AGM AND VOTING RIGHTS

Bring issues, concerns, and/or interests to our annual general meeting for discussion, resolution, and action. All Organization and Individual Members may vote on any issue other than the election of directors and changes to the bylaws. Votes on the election of directors and changes to the bylaws are reserved for Provincial Organization Members. However, any member may nominate a person for one of the ten positions on ORCBC’s Board of Directors. All members are invited to send delegates and, regardless of their voting status, are encouraged to raise issues of concern which might have an impact on public outdoor recreation or to propose resolutions for consideration by the membership.

COMMITTEES

ORCBC members have the opportunity to participate in various ad hoc committees. ORCBC appoints one member as a BC Director of the Canadian Trails Federation and to attend meetings to obtain a national perspective on issues related to trails and trail funding.
